Under the watchful eye of a parent

ree

When offspring hatch from carefully incubated eggs, they become the proverbial apple of their parent's eyes for many months. While foraging, walking, or resting, the parents watch both of them alternately. If danger occurs, the chics quickly hide in the grass or bushes, and the adults defend themselves or attract attention. Sometimes they fake injuries to lure, for example, a fox with the prospect of easy prey, drawing it away from its hidden cubs.
