The osprey is one of the rarest birds of prey in Poland, along with the golden eagle, peregrine falcon, and greater-spotted eagle. The population of this beautiful bird appears to be increasing very slowly. Protective measures contribute to this, e.g. installing platforms on power poles or dedicated piles. However, birds do not always use this type of infrastructure. However, the osprey is frequently perceived as a pest. This is nothing new. Most animals are classified as pests - wild boars, wolves, deer, moose, herons, and cormorants. And as we know, pests need to be fought. In the case of the osprey the reason is that during the breeding season and its stay in our country, it has to catch about 150 kg of fish to feed itself and its chicks. And this, for example, can be classified by owners of breeding ponds as significant financial losses.
How long will we treat animals as pests just because they are just living and trying to function normally for them?
Is man's awareness really so low that he cannot afford a solution other than killing and living in harmony with nature?
