An exceptional fisherman

ree

Although not every hunt is successful, the osprey has a fairly high hunt efficiency. This is determined by the precision and speed with which the bird attacks its victim. Once he gets his claws on a fish, there is no chance for the runaway. Almost immediately afterward, the bird tries to take off with its prey. His wings give as much power as possible to fly upwards quickly with a load that may even be close to the bird's weight. The osprey usually catches fish weighing up to 300-400g, but sometimes it can attack even nearly a kilogram.

After hitting the water, the bird additionally has wet feathers, although they are adapted to contact with water and do not soak up moisture in a short contact during hunting.

Nevertheless, the moment of getting up again can be a difficult task. The bird's talons are so tightly closed that the mandibles are released only after a long time after landing with the fish on a branch or on a nest.
