A territory is a sacred place.

As spring approaches, more and more cranes stick to their territory. They defend it against all competitors. Then there is no mercy for intruders. Sometimes even feathers fall out around. Usually, however, the combat demonstration of the male is enough, and potential competitors move away in search of success elsewhere. The photo shows a territorial male chasing away intruders.
